Internship at Bundestag (Berlin, Germany)

From 22 till 27 August 2016 WIUU students and alumni completed professional practice on the program in International Relations and European Integration of Ukraine in the walls of Bundestag (Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany).

Official program started with the visit to the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany, where participants met press attaché Ms.Kateryna Zelenko. During the meeting Kateryna shared the information on the activities of the Embassy, including projects aimed at popularization of Ukraine in Germany, held a discussion on the political and economic situation in Ukraine, as well as the attitude of the German people to this situation.

Next was a visit to the German Chancellery, where students had an informative excursion, during which everyone could imagine how state power of one of the most successful countries works.
Of course, interns visited Bundestag and other Parliament buildings with Mr.Philip Schmidt – Chief of Staff in the German parliament, who initiated and organized the whole program. Students heard an interesting story about the work of parliament, the rules that have to be undoubtedly obeyed by the deputies. In addition to the Main Conference Hall of Bundestag, where the most important decisions of the world are taken, in the corridors of the Reichstag building participants could see art installations and a wall, which kept records of Soviet soldiers after the victory over fascism in 1945.

Also within the framework of the program WIUU students and alumni attended the Berlin offices of Google and Facebook. The visit in both companies included a tour around the office, a presentation on the strategy and prospects of the company, a discussion on current topics.

After the official part the participants had an interesting and diverse sightseeing program – they ascended the Berlin TV tower – the tallest building in Germany; visited Stasi prison museum Hohenschönhausen; made the city tour on the river Spree; saw the remains of the Berlin Wall etc.

Internship in Berlin ended with the awarding of certificates signed by Honorary Professor Hansjürgen Doss – Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Germany, Member of the German Parliament 1981-2002, President of the German-Ukrainian Association for Economy and Science, Honorary Doctor of Philosophy of the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University and the Ukrainian Free University (Munich), Honorary Professor in Economics of WIUU.
